Afghanistan: How to Help

We know that so many of you, just like us, have been anxiously looking on as the situation in Afghanistan has unfolded over this past week. We’ve met many Afghan refugees over the years and it breaks our hearts to see their country face yet more uncertainty. It goes without saying that we’re committing ourselves to helping in any way we can, and we know lots of you want to help too!

We’re exploring ways in which we can help people in Afghanistan, Afghans arriving to the U.K. and the huge number of Afghan refugees already displaced across Europe and the Middle East and we’ll be updating this page regularly, as new opportunities to help arise.

During this time, it’s important to follow varied and trusted news sources and check whether any information you read has been confirmed (as opposed to just speculated).

How to help Afghan refugees

  • Donate items

We held an aid donation event on 3rd September. At present, we have no plans to run another aid collection event imminently.

If you’d like to drop general donations to our shop in Tonbridge, please do so during opening hours on Wednesdays.

  • Purchase aid

If you don’t have any of the items we’ve requested to donate, you can buy desperately needed aid items for Afghan refugees displaced in Europe and the Middle East instead. The items are purchased locally in each country by refugees employed by us.

  • Make a donation

Consider making a one-off or regular donation to fund our vital projects to support refugees across the globe. As a small charity with few overheads, every donation makes a big impact.

  • Offer housing

It’s local councils who take responsibility for resettling individual families as and when they arrive in the U.K.

Volunteer to offer housing, fostering services or item in need to Afghan refugees in the U.K.

  • Sign a petition

It may feel low-impact but, in the past, big reforms have been prompted by pressure from the public. The petitions which need our support are always changing but this one calling on the U.K. government to protect the freedom and safety of Afghan women and girls is a good place to start.

  • Spread the word

Follow our social channels and help us to spread the word about the current crisis. We offer regular ‘explainer’ posts, updates, and myth debunkers and would love it if you could take the time to share them with friends and family.
